Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ)

The Social Communication Questionnaire (SCQ) is a tool that can be used to routinely screen for ASD.  This tool is intended to be completed by the parents or primary caregiver of a child older than 4 years, who may have ASD.  As with all screening tools, the SCQ is not a diagnostic tool.  If the child receives a score that indicates that they may be at risk of having an autism spectrum disorder, this form can be given to a physician or pediatrician in order to request further diagnostic testing.

The SCQ is comprised of 40 yes or no questions that the parent/primary caregiver can fill out.  The forms are available in Spanish and English.  The simple nature of this form makes it easy for mental health practitioners or educators in the school to use on a frequent basis to screen for ASD.

There are two SCQ forms that can be offered to families.  The Lifetime Form covers the child's entire developmental history.  The Current Status form is more focused on the past three months

The SCQ can be purchased by clicking this link.
