The Hand in Hand Developmental Support Plan (DSP) was designed with the general population in mind. However we also should recognize that Indigenous families have different cultural needs, especially when consider the deep history of trauma that has occurred as a result of colonization. The Nurturing the Seed DSP was created by Infant Mental Health Promotion (IMHP) with the specific needs of Indigenous families in mind.
The difference between Hand in Hand and the Nurturing the Seed DSP is the culturally relevant aspect of the document. It focuses on the growth and development of all four aspects of self (heart, mind, body, and spirit), and relates the 5 domains in the ASQ-3 to the four aspects of self.
